On Wednesday night, the Logan County Mayors Association met for their first gathering of 2025, bringing together mayors from Bellefontaine, Zanesfield, Belle Center, Lakeview, Rushsylvania, West Liberty, Quincy, and DeGraff.

The group meets quarterly in a roundtable format to share updates and discuss ongoing projects in their respective cities and villages.

The meeting featured updates from several local officials and organizations.

Logan County Commissioner Mike Yoder spoke about the possibility of an electric aggregation program, which would allow residents who aren’t part of a cooperative to join together for better and more consistent pricing.

This proposal could appear on the ballot this spring.

Travis Irvan, Logan County Health Commissioner, introduced a new Harm Reduction Vending Machine located at his office on Main Street in Bellefontaine.

The machine offers free items such as pregnancy kits, COVID tests, and safe sex kits, with a ribbon cutting scheduled for the end of the month.

Helen Norris, from Logan County EMA, asked for a new member to join her board, following the retirement of Robin Reams from Russells Point.

Brad Hudson from West Liberty volunteered for the position.

Ben Vollrath, from Economic Development, shared that Logan County is seeing growth.

He also announced upcoming meetings to address housing concerns in the area.

Vollrath highlighted that the Chamber of Commerce will be hosting “Women in Business” networking events every third Friday of the month, starting at 8 a.m. with varying locations.

Other updates from the villages and cities included:

  • DeGraff: Undergoing water and sewer upgrades and working on a Fire/EMS district, which they hope to have on the ballot this spring.
  • Quincy: Is planning to open an independent library soon and is working to repair a fire hydrant damaged by a semi.
  • Lakeview: The Washington Township Police Department has taken over policing the village, which has been a positive change. The village is also recovering from the March 2024 tornado, with the ball field almost restored.
  • Belle Center: The village is conducting a safety assessment for State Route 273 due to a high number of accidents.
  • Zanesfield: Maintaining its streets is a top priority and plans to chip and seal some in the spring.
  • Rushsylvania: Declared 2025 as “A Year of Service” and is exploring new ideas for the community.
  • West Liberty: Considering adding pickleball courts and is working on improving government consistency and employee wages.
  • Bellefontaine: The city is experiencing growth, with new homes being built and parks being upgraded.

The Logan County Mayors Association plans to meet again in April to continue discussing these developments and share further updates.
