Friday afternoon, officers from the Bellefontaine Police Department were informed that an armed robbery had just occurred at the Madriver Marathon Gas Station.

Officers responded to the alleyway behind the Citizens Federal Drive-Through because dispatch advised the suspect had fled the gas station on foot and headed in that direction.

One officer went to the gas station to speak with witnesses and learned that the suspect had taken a pack of cigarettes from behind the counter.

When the suspect exited the store, so did the clerk and two male witnesses.

The suspect told them he had a gun and reached into his front pocket.

A witness told the suspect that he too had a gun and had his concealed carry permit.

The suspect then attempted to fight with the witnesses, and they were able to run him off while another witness called authorities and got a photo of the suspect.

The photo was then forwarded to the officers looking for the suspect.

Officers located the suspect walking on West Sandusky Avenue carrying a book bag.

Officers held the suspect, identified as Alexander Chambers-Caetano, at gunpoint as he refused to comply with their demands.

Additional officers were able to forcibly place Chambers-Caetano into handcuffs and transported him to the Logan County Jail.

When he was searched, two crack pipes were found on him.

In the bookbag, a 9 mm Luger bullet was located, but a firearm was not found.

A search of the area also did not turn up a firearm.

Chambers-Caetano was lodged for robbery, resisting arrest and theft.
