A man suffered a head injury after striking a parked vehicle near a bike path in western Champaign County early Sunday morning.

According to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched just after 1 a.m. Sunday to the area of West Dallas Road and West Simon Kenton Trail on a report of a male who had struck a parked vehicle and was bleeding heavily from the head.

Upon arrival, deputies determined that Michael Dean had collided with a vehicle that was parked near the entrance to the bike path. Dean reportedly contacted 911 himself following the incident to report that he had been injured.

Authorities said the vehicle that was struck had left the area before deputies arrived on the scene. Deputies conducted a search of the surrounding area in an attempt to locate the vehicle and identify its owner but were unsuccessful.

Emergency personnel evaluated Dean at the scene before he was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a minor laceration to his head. No other injuries were reported.

The incident was documented as a non-criminal report, and the investigation remains ongoing as authorities attempt to identify the vehicle involved.
