State Representative Ty Mathews met with members of the Logan County Republican Party Monday afternoon during the group’s monthly luncheon.
Mathews, who recently became a first-time father, proudly shared photos of his 9-week-old son with those in attendance before discussing some of the work currently happening at the Statehouse.
Among the topics was a proposed gas tax holiday aimed at giving Ohio drivers temporary relief at the pump.
Mathews said lawmakers have been discussing ways to ease costs for families as fuel prices continue to impact household budgets.
The proposal would temporarily suspend the state gas tax for a set period of time, though details are still being worked out at the legislative level.
Mathews also spoke about upcoming state budget discussions and several other projects he is involved with at the Statehouse, including work tied to Ohio’s defense and space commissions.
He said he is also continuing efforts to attract businesses to relocate to the area and is working on legislation aimed at preventing Medicaid fraud across the state.
He said those efforts are focused on protecting taxpayer dollars while also encouraging economic growth in local communities.
