Riverside waives school fees for 10th straight year

The Riverside Board of Education met for a brief but busy 21-minute meeting Tuesday evening, approving several staffing items, fee waivers, donations and facility improvements for the upcoming school year.

Board members approved classified employee contracts for the 2026-2027 school year under the district’s adopted salary schedule. Those contracts included:

  • Carolyn Preston as a 6.75-hour cook on a two-year contract
  • Connie Owen as a 6.75-hour cook on a two-year contract
  • Kathy Stotler as a 3-hour cook on a two-year contract

The board also accepted the resignation of Nicole Harshbarger as junior class co-advisor for the 2026-2027 school year.

To fill that opening, members approved Morgan Robison as junior class co-advisor for the upcoming school year.

Several athletic supplemental contracts for the 2026-2027 school year were also approved.

For the fall sports season:

  • Hadlie Asbury was approved as volunteer assistant coach for high school football cheerleading.

For the winter sports season:

  • Harlie McClintick was approved as high school basketball cheer head coach, Level 1
  • Kylie Shoe was approved as 8th grade girls basketball coach, Level 2
  • Jayden Burchett was approved as 8th grade boys basketball coach, Level 3
  • Josh Foreman was approved as 7th grade boys basketball coach, Level 2

The board also approved several fee waivers for students during the 2026-2027 school year.

For the 10th year in a row, all academic school fees will be waived for Riverside students.

Dr. Scott Mann spoke after the meeting about the waived fees:

Athletic participation fees were also waived, including:

  • $65 high school sports participation fees
  • $35 junior high sports participation fees

Board members also approved free admission for current Riverside students to athletic events during the upcoming school year.

Transportation-related fees were waived as well, including:

  • The $30 athletic transportation fee
  • The $25-per-hour field trip transportation fee

The district accepted several donations during the meeting, including:

  • $1,000 from Superintendent Scott Mann for the Doris Wagner Scholarship
  • $550 from the Riverside PTO for summer school
  • $2,000 from Marla McCormick for the Bob and Susie Smithers Scholarship

In facility business, the board approved Buehler Asphalt Paving to complete asphalt work at a cost of $76,673.

The Riverside Board of Education will next meet June 23rd at 5:30 PM in the school library.
