A 30-year-old Bellefontaine man was arrested Friday afternoon after police say he was caught speeding through a school zone and was found to have active warrants and a suspended license.
According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, an officer was monitoring traffic near East Lake Avenue and Michigan Street around 2:45 p.m. when a white Jeep Commander was clocked traveling 35 miles per hour in an active 20-mile-per-hour school zone near Ludlow Road.
Police stopped the vehicle on Superior Street and identified the driver as Aaron Allen.
Officers learned Allen’s driver’s license had expired in 2021, was currently suspended, and that he had active bench warrants through Logan and Union counties.
Allen was taken into custody at the scene.
During the stop, officers also noticed open containers of beer inside the Jeep.
Allen also told officers there may be marijuana inside the vehicle.
During a search of the Jeep, police found a bag of marijuana and a small straw inside a cigarette pack.
According to the report, Allen admitted the straw was used to snort Percocet.
Allen was transported to the Logan County Jail.
He was cited for speeding in a school zone, driving without a valid license, and driving under suspension.
He was also issued a criminal summons for possessing drug abuse instruments.
