Tornado Devastates Indian Lake; EMA Update

Devastation and tragedy struck Indian Lake Thursday night just before 8 PM.

According to the Logan County Sheriff, his office received reports of storm damage that began in the Sante Fe area.

The storm continued East over Lakeview and the midway area causing heavy property damage, then rolled over Russells Point.

Several homes, businesses, vehicles, and other property were destroyed or severely damaged.

Several businesses were damaged or suffered a complete loss in the path of the tornado including Steve Austin’s at the Lake, Luxe, Padrone’s Pizza, La Playa Azul, All-Around Accounting, Lakeview Hardware, Indian Head Roadhouse, and Community Market in Lakeview.

Orchard Island in Russells Point was inaccessible because of fallen trees and several gas leaks.

Multiple injuries and 3 confirmed fatalities have been reported. First Responders from numerous agencies continue to search and rescue.

Shelters are opened at the Galilee Lutheran Church, Indian Lake Community Church in Russell’s Point, Huntsville Fire Department, and Indian Lake High School. Indian Lake School reports that if parents are doing cleanup and need a safe place for their children, they have resources available. You are asked to sign in at the front door of the high school. If you need immediate assistance, you are asked to call 1-800-REDCROSS. The Red Cross has also set up at the Bellefontaine First Church of God located at 1000 East Brown Avenue.

More than 5,000 Logan County residences are reportedly without power, according to AES and Logan County Electric Cooperative. Verizon is also in the area working to report service.

Unless you are a first responder you are asked to avoid the Indian Lake Area.

A press conference is scheduled for Friday morning.
