Two men were arrested in separate impaired driving cases handled by the Urbana Police Division over consecutive days, including one following a traffic stop and another involving a tractor.
According to an Urbana Police Division report, 65-year-old Mark Frawley from New Carlisle was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) and open container after officers stopped his pickup truck shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Friday, July 31, for crossing the centerline and edge line on Lewis B. Moore Avenue.
Police said they smelled a strong odor of alcohol and noticed Frawley had bloodshot eyes. After field sobriety tests, Frawley provided breath samples that showed he was more than three times over the legal limit, according to the report.
Officers also reported finding several empty beer cans inside the truck and in the bed of the vehicle.
In a separate incident early Saturday, August 1, 48-year-old Justin Albert of St. Paris was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence and obstructing official business after officers responded to a property on East Water Street.
Police said Albert had called to report that someone had trespassed and mowed his grass differently than he preferred. When officers arrived, they saw Albert driving a John Deere tractor before following him to his property.
Officers reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol and said Albert had bloodshot, glossy eyes, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet. Police said Albert repeatedly tried to retrieve a chainsaw from his truck after telling officers he had weapons inside.
Albert refused field sobriety tests and also refused to provide a breath sample after his arrest, according to the report. Officers also reported finding an empty Budweiser can in the bed of his truck and an unopened can inside the vehicle.
According to police, both men were charged and later released to sober drivers.
