A two-vehicle crash occurred on Tuesday morning at the intersection of West Chillicothe Avenue and South Main Street, resulting in the citation of one driver for multiple violations.

According to Bellefontaine Police, Unit #1, operated by Key Jenkins, 52, of Bellefontaine,  was stopped at a red light on West Chillicothe Avenue.

Brent Swartz, 55 of Bellefontaine, was traveling north on South Main Street and approaching the intersection with a green light.

Jenkins, reportedly distracted, entered the intersection against the red light.

Swartz attempted to brake but slid on the wet roadway, colliding with Jenkins’ vehicle.

Police discovered that Jenkins was driving under an administrative license suspension through the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Jenkins explained that he was driving his roommate’s vehicle to Bellefontaine Municipal Court to pay a court fine.

He said his roommate was asleep at their residence when he left and acknowledged that he entered the intersection without stopping, treating it as a stop sign instead of obeying the traffic signal.

Jenkins has been cited for running the red light and driving under suspension.

No injuries were reported from the accident, and both vehicles sustained minor damage.
