A 29-year-old Urbana man was charged with OVI early Sunday morning following an investigation at a Speedway on North Main Street.

According to the Urbana Police Division, officers were dispatched around 1:12 a.m. on Sunday, August 16, after receiving a report of a verbal argument involving a man and woman at the Speedway located at 731 N. Main St.

Officers located Bryce Walls at the business and reported that he appeared intoxicated, with bloodshot eyes and an odor of alcohol coming from his person.

During the investigation, Walls reportedly told officers he had been drinking at Brackens Pub before going to Speedway. He said he had consumed two to three Long Island Iced Teas and a shot.

When officers explained that they would be conducting an OVI investigation, Walls reportedly stated that he already knew he would be over the legal limit.

Walls agreed to perform standardized field sobriety tests. According to the report, officers observed multiple indicators of impairment during the tests, including difficulty following instructions, repeatedly stepping off the line during the walk-and-turn test, using his arms for balance, and putting his foot down twice during the one-leg-stand test.

Walls was then offered a portable breath test, which reportedly registered a .14 reading.

He was placed under arrest for OVI and transported to the Urbana Police Division. After arriving at the station, Walls agreed to submit to an evidentiary breath test, which showed a blood-alcohol concentration of .138, according to police.

Walls was issued a citation for OVI, his driver’s license was suspended pending his initial court appearance, and he was released to a sober driver.
