A 40-year-old Urbana man was arrested Sunday following a reported domestic violence incident at a residence on Boyce Street.

According to the Urbana Police Division, officers were dispatched around 11 a.m. Aug. 16 following a report of a physical altercation involving Joshua D. Powell.

During the investigation, it was reported that an argument had escalated and Powell allegedly pushed the victim into a wall. The confrontation reportedly continued into a garage, where Powell allegedly shoved the victim again, causing the victim to fall to the ground.

The victim also reported that a cellphone was taken and damaged during the incident.

Police were later advised that Powell had returned to the residence and allegedly retrieved a firearm. According to the report, the firearm was reportedly waved during the encounter before Powell left the residence again.

Officers issued a stop-and-hold bulletin for Powell, who was later located in Springfield by Springfield Police and transported back to the Urbana Police Division.

After being advised of his Miranda rights, Powell agreed to speak with officers. He acknowledged that an argument had occurred and confirmed that the confrontation moved through several areas of the residence before continuing in the garage.

Powell told officers that the two were in close proximity when he “body bumped” the victim, causing the victim to fall. He said he helped the victim up before leaving.

Powell also acknowledged returning to retrieve his wallet and firearm. He denied taking the cellphone and denied taking a camera that had reportedly been mounted outside the residence.

The victim sustained multiple minor injuries, including a scrape to the right shin and red marks on the right shoulder, both hands and left wrist. The injuries were photographed by officers.

Powell was arrested and transported to the Tri-County Regional Jail. He is facing a charge of domestic violence, knowingly.
