Two drivers were charged with operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) during separate traffic stops in Urbana early Sunday morning, according to police reports.

Donald Scott was charged with OVI and expired registration following a traffic stop shortly before 3 a.m. on July 12.

According to the report, Scott was stopped after officers observed multiple traffic violations, including an expired registration and an unsafe left turn across the roadway. During the stop, officers reported smelling alcohol coming from the vehicle and observed an open container inside.

Scott told officers he had recently left a bar and had consumed alcohol earlier in the night. He agreed to perform field sobriety tests, during which officers reported observing several indicators of impairment.

A portable breath test reportedly showed a result of 0.129. Scott was taken into custody and later released to a sober driver after additional testing procedures and paperwork were completed.

Shelbi Knueven was charged with OVI and having an open container of alcohol following a traffic stop around 3 a.m. on July 12.

According to the report, Knueven was stopped after officers observed traffic violations, including failing to use the designated turning lane and crossing over the center line while driving.

During the stop, officers reported detecting an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and observing signs they believed were consistent with impairment. Knueven was asked to complete field sobriety tests, and the report states officers observed multiple indicators of impairment.

Knueven was taken into custody after declining to provide a breath sample. A search of the vehicle reportedly found multiple alcoholic beverage containers, including open containers.

Knueven’s vehicle was legally parked, and she was later released to a sober driver.

Both cases were filed as misdemeanor OVI charges.
