A Defiance man is facing felony charges after police say he printed and used a fake temporary license plate at a local Walmart.

According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, officers were called to the store on South Main Street around 4:30 p.m. on Friday for a report of a suspicious man acting nervously.

The caller told police the man was walking around the office supply area and asking where to find paper to print a vehicle registration tag.

Officers were unable to find him inside the store at first.

He was later found sitting in a red car in the parking lot.

Police say they saw the man, identified as 32-year-old Joe Vera, putting a temporary license plate on the back of his vehicle.

Officers questioned him about the tag, but he could not explain it clearly.

Investigators later determined the plate on the car did not belong to the vehicle and had expired.

They also found another fake temporary tag inside the car that appeared to be printed on photo paper.

Police reviewed security video from Walmart that reportedly showed Vera using a photo kiosk earlier in the day to print the fake plate.

Vera was arrested at the scene and taken to the Logan County Jail.

He is charged with two counts of forgery.

The vehicle was searched and later towed from the parking lot.
