A Clark County man wanted on multiple felony warrants is in custody after leading law enforcement on a pursuit through Clark and Champaign counties Wednesday morning.
According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, 46-year-old Jamie Back was arrested after deputies attempted to serve felony warrants at a residence in Clark County around 11:19 a.m.
Investigators said deputies and detectives arrived at the location to take Back into custody when they observed him with property believed to be connected to additional criminal activity. As deputies made contact, Back got into a white Jeep Patriot and drove away. An uninvolved female passenger who was already inside the vehicle remained with him as the pursuit began.
The chase traveled through western Clark County, primarily along lightly traveled rural roads. The Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted by deploying two aviation units, allowing officers to monitor the vehicle from the air while reducing the need for close pursuit on the ground.
During the pursuit, deputies successfully deployed tire deflation devices, damaging two of the Jeep’s tires. Authorities said Back later stopped long enough to allow the female passenger to exit the vehicle before continuing into Champaign County.
After crossing the county line, Back attempted to drive through a field but lost control because of the damaged tires. His vehicle was involved in a low-speed crash around 11:58 a.m.
Back then fled on foot and attempted to hide in a nearby wooded area. Using aerial support, deputies quickly located him, and he was taken into custody without further incident at approximately 12:28 p.m.
He was transported to the Clark County Jail, where he is being held on the outstanding felony warrants and is expected to face additional charges related to the pursuit. Authorities also said Back remains under investigation in connection with other suspected criminal offenses.
Back is scheduled to be arraigned in Clark County Municipal Court on Thursday, July 9.
