A major manufacturing expansion involving Weidmann Electrical Technology will bring new jobs and additional investment to Champaign County, according to an announcement from Governor Mike DeWine’s office.
The Ohio Tax Credit Authority recently approved incentives for Weidmann Electrical Technology as part of a project spanning facilities in Urbana and Middletown. The company expects to create 105 new full-time jobs and generate more than $10.6 million in annual payroll by the end of 2028.
Weidmann is a global supplier of insulation technologies and accessories used by transformer manufacturers and electrical utilities. Its products include transformer boards, insulation paper, specialized components, and transformer accessories used in power distribution systems around the world.
As part of the expansion, Weidmann plans to begin manufacturing transformer board products at a facility in Middletown while continuing and expanding paper insulation production at its Urbana operation. The project is designed to strengthen the company’s manufacturing capabilities and support growing demand within the electrical infrastructure sector.
To support the expansion, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved a 1.726 percent, nine-year Job Creation Tax Credit.
The project was one of eight economic development initiatives approved statewide during the authority’s latest meeting. Combined, the projects are expected to create more than 1,600 new jobs and generate more than $1.8 billion in investment across Ohio.
The announcement highlights the continued importance of Weidmann’s Urbana facility as part of the company’s long-term growth strategy and reinforces Champaign County’s role in Ohio’s advanced manufacturing sector.
