A Wilmington woman is facing multiple charges after an early morning traffic stop in Urbana led to her arrest for operating a vehicle while impaired.
According to a report from the Urbana Police Division, an officer on patrol around 12:38 a.m. Sunday observed a black Hyundai near Monument Square. Police said the driver pulled out into traffic far enough that the officer was forced to stop his cruiser.
After getting behind the vehicle on Miami Street, the officer observed additional driving issues. The vehicle reportedly stopped at a green traffic light, causing a motorcycle rider behind it to honk. Once the vehicle began moving again, police said it drifted to the right side of the roadway and traveled with its passenger-side tires over the white line marking the parking lane.
A traffic stop was initiated in the 600 block of Miami Street. The driver was identified as 33-year-old Arianna Jones of Wilmington.
While speaking with Jones, the officer observed red, bloodshot eyes. Jones initially denied consuming alcohol before later telling police she had one drink around 3 p.m.
Police administered a series of standardized field sobriety tests. According to the report, Jones showed multiple clues of impairment during the tests. Officers also detected a faint odor of alcoholic beverages while conducting the evaluation.
Jones agreed to provide a sample on a portable breath test, which registered a blood alcohol content of 0.240, three times the legal limit in Ohio.
She was subsequently placed under arrest for operating a vehicle while impaired.
During a search of the vehicle, police reportedly located an open can of Twisted Tea and an open Cutwater Lime Margarita, both of which still contained liquid and were cold to the touch.
Jones was transported to the Urbana Police Division, where she later submitted another breath sample on an Intox DMT machine.
During the observation period before the test, officers reported that Jones repeatedly asked the same questions and at one point asked what town she was in.
Jones was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence with a prohibited high-tier alcohol concentration, marked lanes, and open container.
Police also noted Jones has a prior physical control conviction from 2023.
She was issued citations and released to a sober driver.
