Benjamin Logan 7, Bellefontaine 2
Benjamin Logan broke open a tight game with seven unanswered runs to pull away from Bellefontaine 7-2 in a Chieftains vs. Raiders matchup.
Bellefontaine struck first, plating single runs in the first and third innings. Sutton Daring scored both runs for the Chieftains, first coming home on a passed ball with two outs and two strikes, then again in the third on an RBI double from Aven Caudill.
Benjamin Logan flipped the momentum in the bottom of the fourth. Adam Tinsman and Micah Gregg opened the inning with back-to-back singles, and Tinsman later scored on a Jacob Hawley line drive that was misplayed in the infield. With the bases loaded, Gavin Riedmiller was hit by a pitch to tie the game, and moments later Soli Hughes delivered a key RBI single to right to give the Raiders a 3-2 lead.
The Raiders broke it open in the fifth. A sacrifice fly from Carrick Spriggs brought in a run, and Oliver Morse followed with a two-run single to center. Riedmiller later scored on a heads-up play after a steal attempt, sliding home safely to cap the scoring at 7-2.
Tinsman was strong on the mound, allowing just four hits while striking out five to earn the win. Offensively, Benjamin Logan was led by multi-hit performances from Hughes, Tinsman, and Morse, with Morse driving in a team-high two RBIs.
For Bellefontaine, Caudill led the offense with two hits and the team’s only RBI.
Benjamin Logan improves to 6-5 and will host Shawnee in a two-game series beginning Monday, while Bellefontaine falls to 6-4 and will face Jonathan Alder next week.
Mechanicsburg 19, Catholic Central 1 (4 innings)
Mechanicsburg rolled to a dominant 19-1 run-rule win over Catholic Central, staying unbeaten with a fast-starting offensive explosion.
The Indians scored 19 runs on just 10 hits, drawing 15 walks and stealing 11 bases in a relentless offensive performance.
Mechanicsburg set the tone immediately with an eight-run first inning. Eli Wilson doubled early and later scored on a balk. Conner Eyink added production with a sacrifice fly, Hank Huffman scored on a sac fly from Matthew Davis, and Liam O’Laughlin drew a bases-loaded walk before scoring on a wild pitch. Avery Foss added an RBI single, and Eyeyink capped the inning with another sacrifice fly.
The Indians added one run in the second on a wild pitch before putting the game away with five runs in both the third and fourth innings. Bodee Delong contributed an RBI double and multiple RBI singles helped stretch the lead to 14-1. In the fourth, walks and another RBI single from Crew Larafy finished the scoring surge.
Foss led the offense with three RBIs, while several Indians recorded multi-hit games and consistently reached base throughout the lineup.
The pitching staff combined to allow just one run on three hits while striking out four.
Mechanicsburg improves to 9-0 and will face Ridgedale on Saturday.
West Liberty-Salem 15, Southeastern 3 (5 innings)
West Liberty-Salem used a balanced offensive attack and a late surge to run-rule Southeastern 15-3.
The Tigers opened the scoring in the first on a sacrifice fly from Reese Oder that brought home Isaac Sertell. After a quiet second inning, West Liberty-Salem broke things open.
In the third, Sertell scored on an error, and Braden Hershberger and Josiah Johnson delivered key RBI hits, with Johnson driving in two runs on a single to left to help build momentum.
Southeastern briefly responded with a two-run single, but the Tigers quickly pulled away. In the fourth, Sertell walked with the bases loaded, Hershberger drove in two more, and Oder added another sacrifice fly. Jeremiah Johnson then delivered the big blow with a two-run home run to right. Sam Strapp added an RBI single to push the game into run-rule territory.
West Liberty-Salem sealed the win in the fifth with a balk and a final RBI single from Garrett Hull.
Jeremiah Johnson highlighted the offense with a two-run home run and multiple hits, while nine different Tigers recorded at least one hit and seven drove in runs.
The Tigers improve to 6-4 and will travel to Graham on Saturday.
Riverside 12, Fairlawn 2 (5 innings)
Riverside powered its way to a run-rule win behind a dominant pitching performance from Cooper Crouch in a 12-2 victory over Fairlawn.
Crouch was in control from the start, throwing a shortened complete game while allowing just two runs on two hits and one walk, striking out 11 in a commanding outing.
The Pirates struck early with three runs in the first inning. Brody Osborne scored on a wild pitch, Crouch came home on a passed ball, and Syler Clark stole home to cap the opening frame.
Riverside broke the game open in the second with five runs, all with two outs. Osborne doubled to center to drive in David Gross, then Crouch followed with a two-run home run to deep left. An infield error allowed two more runs to score, pushing the lead to 8-0.
The offense continued to chip away from there. Osborne added an RBI single in the third, Clark scored again on a dropped third strike in the fourth, and the Pirates sealed the run-rule win in the fifth with RBI singles from Crouch and Camden Shoe.
Osborne led the way offensively, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Crouch finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and three runs scored of his own, while Clark also crossed the plate three times.
Riverside improves to 10-3 and will host Ansonia on Saturday.
Urbana 8, North Union 1
Urbana bounced back with an 8-1 road win over North Union, scoring eight unanswered runs to take control.
Pitchers Jackson Stacy and BJ Potter combined for a strong outing, allowing just four hits while striking out seven.
North Union struck first in the opening inning, but Urbana quickly settled in and responded in the third. Colton Roberts scored on an error to tie the game, and Austin Hill followed with an RBI single to bring in Carter Houseman for a 2-1 lead.
The Hillclimbers added three more in the fourth. Roberts singled to drive in Tate Lantz, then later scored on a passed ball. Brody Donahoe added a sacrifice groundout RBI to score Houseman.
Urbana continued to build on the lead with one run in each of the final three innings. Lantz launched a solo home run in the fifth, Donahoe added a two-out RBI single in the sixth, and Houseman capped the scoring with a solo homer in the seventh.
Donahoe led the offense with two RBIs, while four different players recorded multi-hit games in a balanced attack.
Urbana moves to 6-5 and will host Southeastern on Saturday.
Tecumseh 11, Graham 1
Graham fell 11-1 to Tecumseh despite an early lead in the CBC matchup.
The Falcons struck first when Kase Loudenback reached on an error and eventually scored on an RBI groundout from Jack Traylor to take a 1-0 lead.
That advantage was short-lived as Tecumseh responded with five runs in the second inning to take control. The Arrows added four more in the fourth and two in the seventh, finishing with 11 runs on 11 hits, eight walks, and a Graham error.
Graham’s offense was limited, but Loudenback, Levi Hollingsworth, and Kingston McWilliams each recorded a hit.
The Falcons fall to 2-9 and will host West Liberty-Salem on Saturday.
London 9, Indian Lake 0
Indian Lake was shut out by London in a 9-0 loss as the Red Raiders ended the Lakers’ brief winning streak.
London scored nine runs on seven hits and one walk, taking advantage of six Indian Lake errors, including a seven-run sixth inning that broke the game open.
The Lakers struggled offensively, managing just five baserunners and only one reaching scoring position.
Cooper Hall led Indian Lake with a two-hit performance, while Jackson Snipes and Dawson Stevenson each added a single.
Indian Lake falls and will look to reset Saturday against Bethel.
Madison Plains 12, Triad 2 (5 innings)
Triad was run-ruled by Madison Plains 12-2 after a late surge by the Golden Eagles.
Madison Plains scored first with three runs in the opening inning, all coming after a bases-loaded fly ball to right resulted in a costly error that cleared the bases.
Triad answered in the fourth. Alex May drove in Connor Hayes on a sacrifice fly, and Alfred Johnson followed with an RBI single to score Duncan Funderburgh.
Those were the only runs for the Cardinals, as Madison Plains added a run in the fourth before exploding for eight runs in the fifth on four hits, including two triples, along with three Triad errors and three walks.
Funderburgh, Johnson, and Jayden Blackburn each recorded a hit for Triad.
The Cardinals fall to 1-8 and will host West Jefferson on Monday to begin a two-game series.
