Indian Lake Little League No. 2, sponsored by Holt Automotive, capped off an outstanding season Monday evening by claiming the county championship with a thrilling 6-5 walk-off victory over fellow Indian Lake squad No. 1.
The championship game provided a dramatic finish worthy of a title contest. Trailing 5-4 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, Indian Lake No. 2 mounted one final rally. After Keaton Vasquez executed a perfectly placed bunt to keep the inning alive, Reed Cascioli drove a deep fly ball to the fence, bringing home two runs and sending his teammates streaming onto the field to celebrate the championship.
Indian Lake No. 2 struck first in the opening inning when Vasquez grounded out to score the game’s first run. They added two more runs in the second inning on RBI singles by Wyatt Mullins and Harley Hanson before Knox Thompson singled to center field in the third inning to extend the lead to 4-2.
Indian Lake No. 1 battled back throughout the contest. Layne Riley doubled to center field in the fifth inning to tie the game at 4-4 before No. 1 took its first lead in the top of the sixth inning on a steal of home, making it 5-4 and setting the stage for a dramatic finish.
In the bottom half of the inning, Vasquez’s clutch bunt gave Indian Lake No. 2 a chance, and Cascioli delivered the biggest hit of the season, driving in the winning runs for a 6-5 walk-off championship victory.
Cascioli also turned in a strong performance on the mound, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five over four innings. Thompson came on in relief to help secure the victory. Indian Lake No. 1 starter Hayden Heppard pitched four solid innings, surrendering four runs on seven hits while recording five strikeouts.
Indian Lake No. 2 finished with 10 hits. Mullins, Thompson, and Owen Strayer each collected two hits, while Cascioli drove in two runs. Hanson and Asher Kinson each stole multiple bases to help fuel the offense.
For Indian Lake No. 1, Heppard and Riley each had two hits and two RBIs. Both players also stole multiple bases as No. 1 swiped nine bases during the championship game.
The championship was the culmination of an exceptional season for the Indian Lake Little League program. Not only did Indian Lake No. 2 earn the county title, but Indian Lake also placed two teams in the county championship game while a third advanced to the semifinals.
The accomplishment reflects the dedication and hard work of the players, coaches, and families who have helped build a strong foundation for the program. Having two Indian Lake teams compete for a county championship is a testament to the depth of talent and teamwork throughout the organization.
