West Liberty-Salem Big Orange Boys Win 6th Consecutive Bob Schul Invitational

The West Liberty-Salem Big Orange boys cross country team continued their dominance, clinching their 6th consecutive win at the Bob Schul Invitational held at Milton-Union Schools. The team showcased their depth with standout performances from several runners. Junior Caleb Larson led the team with a personal best time of 16:28.7, finishing 5th overall. Senior Asher Knox followed closely in 6th place with a time of 16:31.6. Notable performances also came from Dylan King (16:37.9, PR) and freshmen Asher Cole (16:48.5, PR) and Bryan Gullett (17:12.1, PR). The Big Orange secured the victory with a total of 58 points, outpacing Vandalia Butler (117 points) and Piqua (125 points).

West Liberty-Salem Girls Place 4th

The West Liberty-Salem Big Orange girls cross country team opened their season with a strong showing at the Bob Schul Invitational, finishing 4th out of 19 teams in the Division 3 race. Gwen McCullough and Malia Miller led the charge with impressive finishes, placing 4th (20:15) and 5th (20:19) respectively. Isla Leichty (25th), Addi Wallen (36th), and Ivy Matthews (51st) also contributed to the team’s success. The coach praised the team for their performance in challenging conditions and expressed excitement about the season ahead, noting that many runners were competing in their first high school 5K.

Bellefontaine Boys XC Places 7th

The Bellefontaine boys cross country team earned a 7th place finish out of 19 teams in the Division 1/2 race at the Bob Schul Invitational. Hayden Maus led the team with a personal best of 16:20, finishing 3rd overall. Jake Moreland also achieved a personal best with a 10th-place finish at 16:40. Other notable performances included Will Myers (18:23, PR) and Landon Gerwels (19:11, PR). Coach highlighted Mays’ approach to breaking into the top 10 board as a positive sign for the season.

Bellefontaine Girls XC Team 11th at Bob Schul Invitational

The Bellefontaine girls cross country team finished 11th out of 30 teams in the Division 1/2 race at the Bob Schul Invitational. Grace Brown led the team with a 4th place finish in a competitive field of 260 runners, clocking in at 19:53. Senior Kailyn Newman also performed well, finishing 22nd with a time of 21:51. The team will look to build on this performance at the Logan County meet on August 27.

Lady Raider Cross Country Opens Season

The Lady Raider cross country team competed in their season opener at the Northwestern Invitational in Springfield, where they placed well among 84 runners from 12 schools. Scarlett Elliott led the Raiders with a 16th-place finish, covering the 3.1-mile course in 23:44. The team also saw strong performances from Estella Wenger (19th), Lottie Boden (22nd), and Gwendolyn Smith (25th). The Raiders will continue their season at the Logan County XC Championships.

Indian Lake Girls Shine with Individual Awards

The high school girls’ team finished 14th overall, led by Reagan Rash, who clinched a medal with a 10th place finish, running the 5K course in 20:30. Evie Wagner also stood out, earning a ribbon for her 60th place finish with a time of 23:13. Other finishers included Alicia Brielmaier in 91st (24:28), Haley Metzger in 120th (25:31), and Kayleigh Taylor in 137th (26:08).

Individual performances included Will Faler in 160th (20:30), Bryan Mohler in 183rd (21:03), Caleb Altstaetter in 241st (22:16), and Daniel Wahl in 273rd (23:21).
