Riverside School Board creates contingency plans Print E-mail

riverside_sb_mtg_9-28-08.jpgThe Riverside School Board met in a special session Monday evening to come up with contingency plans if the November levy fails.

The board is asking voters to pass a 2% replacement tax.

The current levy calls for inclusion of earned income and self-employment income only and would exclude income from such items as pensions, interest, capital gains, and rental incomes. (Audio and video interviews included.)

The House on Monday defeated a $700 billion emergency rescue package, ignoring urgent pleas from President Bush and bipartisan congressional leaders to quickly bail out the staggering financial industry.

Stocks plummeted on Wall Street even before the 228-205 vote to reject the bill was announced on the House floor.

The Logan County Sheriff's Office arrested two local men on drug-related charges in Huntsville last night around 9:30.

While on patrol, deputies noticed a Dodge Avenger near the ballpark.

Authorities became suspicious and had the drug canine search the vehicle.

Two syringes, a marijuana pipe, unidentified narcotics, and a spoon with heroin residue were found. (Photo included.)

Early voting in Ohio starts this week Print E-mail

vote_button_on_11-07.jpgFor many Ohioans Election Day starts tomorrow with the state's first-ever early voting option.

Thanks to a 2005 law, anyone can now vote by absentee ballot without stating a reason.

The law was designed to encourage early voting among Ohio's almost eight million registered voters to reduce poll lines on Election Day.

Turkey season plus youth hunting opportunities all through October Print E-mail

ohio_division_of_wildlife.gifHunters are preparing for Ohio's upcoming fall wild turkey season, which runs Saturday, October 11 through Sunday, November 30, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

New this year, wild turkeys may be hunted throughout the entire season with shotguns using shot, crossbows and longbows. Previously, the season had been split with an archery-only segment during the last portion of the season. Nine counties in northeast Ohio, including Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, and Wayne, have been added to the fall turkey season. This brings the number of open counties statewide to 46.
