2024 Budget Items on Bellefontaine City Council Agenda

Tuesday evening the City of Bellefontain’s Council met in regular session.

Mayor Ben Stahler gave an update that the “Christmas Elves” have beautifully decorated downtown, making it ready for the upcoming Christmas parade in December. The lights will all be turned on in the downtown district on Wednesday, November 22, just before Thanksgiving, however, the little Christmas tree on the courthouse lawn will not be lit until the parade.

Ariel Shultz was unanimously appointed by the council to serve on the Metropolitan Housing Authority.

Wes Dodds, Service Safety Director, told the council that leaf pick up within the city continues and as it wraps those trucks will be readied for plowing snow, as winter is coming.

Both the Mayor and Dodds mentioned that they appreciated the efforts of the council in the recent 2024 budget discussions.

Dodds also mentions that healthcare renewal is coming on January 1 and that negotiations are currently underway with the current company.

Parks Superintendant, Kris Myers thanked the board for the support of the recent Parks Levy and expressed that while he was disappointed, it would not damper his attempts to continue to improve the parks.

Ben Vollrath, from Economic Development, reported that a recent housing development fell in Marysville and that he was hoping that the failure would push more people to locate to Logan County.

The council went on to hear the below ordinances. Many passed on first reading. the resolutions were adopted.

Ordinances for 1st reading:

  • 23-67 An ordinance amending portions of chapter 192 income tax of the codified Ordinances of the city of Bellefontaine, Ohio, and declaring an emergency.
  • 23-68 An ordinance making supplemental appropriations and amending the Permanent appropriations ordinance for purposes of fire and police and Declaring an emergency. PASSED ON FIRST AND FINAL, THEN ADOPTED.
  • 23-69 An ordinance authorizing the purchase of miscellaneous supplies, Equipment, and services for use in 2024, and declaring an emergency in the City of Bellefontaine, Ohio.
  • 23-70 An ordinance amending the account clerk position to the assistant Deputy auditor position for the auditor’s office of the city of Bellefontaine, Ohio, and declaring an emergency.
  • 23-71 An ordinance establishing and providing for compensation for the Assistant municipal court prosecutor and declaring an emergency.
  • R23-72 A resolution establishing new expense accounts within the general fund.
  • 23-73 An ordinance establishing and providing for compensation for the Bellefontaine municipal court prosecutor for 2024 and declaring an Emergency.
  • 23-74 An ordinance establishing and providing for compensation of the Bellefontaine municipal court judge for 2024 and declaring an emergency.
  • 23-75 An ordinance establishing and providing for compensation for the President of the council, council members, clerk of council, mayor, law Director, and auditor for 2024 and declaring an emergency.
  • 23-76 An ordinance establishing and providing for compensation for certain Hourly employees of the city of Bellefontaine and declaring an emergency. (Service workers pay)
  • 23-77 An ordinance establishing and providing for compensation for certain Hourly employees of the city of Bellefontaine and declaring an Emergency. (Clerical works pay)
  • 23-78 An ordinance establishing and providing for compensation for certain Hourly employees of the city of Bellefontaine and declaring an Emergency. (Supervisory workers pay)
  • 23-80 An ordinance authorizing and directing the service-safety director or police Chief to enter into a contract with flock safety for technology services And declare an emergency.
  • R23-81 A resolution adopting an Ohio EMA first responders retention incentive Grant policy.
  • R23-82 A resolution adopting the Logan County multi-hazard mitigation plan.
  • 23-83 An ordinance making temporary appropriations for current expenses and Other expenditures during the fiscal year beginning January 1, 2024, and Ending December 31, 2024, and declaring an emergency.

The Bellefontaine City Council meeting is set for Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 7:30 PM in council chambers.
