The Bellefontaine Police Department observed a vehicle eastbound on West Sandusky Avenue with a window tint violation Saturday afternoon around 4:30.
The driver also made an improper turn onto West Sandusky Avenue from North Elm Street.
As a traffic stop was initiated, the officer checked the window tint on the front driver’s window which was at 30%, in violation of the legal limit.
The male passenger, identified as Brent Johnson, 52, of Bellefontaine, was not wearing his seat belt, was uncooperative, and showed signs of impairment.
The driver was identified as Brent Ellis, 47, of Lima.
When asked if there was anything illegal on his person or inside the vehicle, Ellis stated no. He then admitted to possessing a small amount of marijuana.
Upon a search of Ellis’ person, two blue pills were located in his pocket, and he claimed the pills were generic Viagra but he did not have a prescription. The pills were wrapped in a plastic baggie consistent with illegal drug use.
A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, and a bag of marijuana was located in the center console. An open Budweiser beer bottle was also located underneath the rear of Johnson’s seat.
Nothing else illegal was located inside the vehicle.
Ellis was issued a summons for possession of marijuana and Johnson was issued a summons for possession of an open container in a motor vehicle.
Ellis was given warnings for the tint violation and improper turn.
The marijuana and pills were placed into police evidence.
