The Bellefontaine Police Department handled a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon at the intersection of Columbus Avenue and Detroit Street.

The crash happened around 2:45 p.m. when a 2009 Honda CR-V driven by 16-year-old William Gates of Bellefontaine was westbound on West Columbus Avenue and ran a red light at North Detroit Street.

The passenger side of Gates’ vehicle was then hit by a 2011 Acura TL driven by 75-year-old Beverly Wolf of Zanesfield, who was traveling southbound on Detroit Street.

Bellefontaine EMS checked Gates at the scene for possible injuries and transported Wolf to Mary Rutan Hospital with suspected serious injuries.

Gates was cited for running a red light, and the Acura was towed from the scene due to heavy damage.
