*** UPDATE ***
This week Bellefontaine High School students have been thinking about how they can take care of themselves.

They were asked to think about ways they could take care of their mental, physical, and emotional health and write them on “hands” to display in the school.

These hands will serve as a reminder of what they promised to themselves and also help them see other ideas of ways they can care for themselves.

Bellefontaine High School kicked off its Suicide Awareness Week on Monday.

September is Suicide Prevention Month, a time to remember the lives lost to suicide, acknowledge the millions more who have experienced suicidal thoughts, and the many individuals, families, and communities that have been impacted by suicide. It’s also a time to raise awareness about suicide prevention and share a message of hope.

Monday students were greeted with locker signs spreading a message of hope and magnets that share information about 988, the suicide and crisis lifeline. People can call or text 988 for themselves or if they are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support. 988 offers 24/7 access to trained crisis counselors who can help people experiencing mental health-related distress. Whether you’re facing mental health struggles, emotional distress, alcohol or drug use concerns, or just need someone to talk to, caring counselors are there for you. You are not alone.

The district would to thank the Logan County Health District and the Logan County Suicide Prevention Coalition for their donations to our awareness week. They also extend thanks to the Mental Health, Drug, and Alcohol Services Board of Logan and Champaign Counties for their support of their activities this week.
