A 63-year-old Bellefontaine man was arrested Sunday afternoon after police found him highly intoxicated near downtown.
According to a report from the Bellefontaine Police Department, an officer was patrolling near Elm Street and West Chillicothe Avenue around 4 p.m. when several patrons at Roundhouse Brewing Depot flagged him down about a man who was stumbling down the street and had fallen near the post office.
The officer located Wesley Bickle lying on the ground in a grassy area.
When asked if he was okay, Bickle reportedly replied that he was “just taking a hiatus.”
Police noted that his speech was slurred and difficult to understand.
According to the report, Bickle admitted he had been drinking and told the officer he was staying in the woods west of downtown.
Officers attempted to find a sober person who could take custody of him, but were unsuccessful.
Police said Bickle had difficulty standing and walking because of his level of intoxication.
At one point, he reportedly told officers he wanted to go to jail so he could get something to eat.
Bickle was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct by public intoxication.
He was transported to the Logan County Jail and lodged on the charge.
