IL BOE Approves Armed Staff; Receives Grant for Livestock Barn

The Indian Lake Board of Education met in a regular session Tuesday evening.

At the top of the agenda, the Indian Lake/Ohio Hi-point FFA was awarded a $3,000 grant from the Logan County Farm Bureau for use towards their new barn construction project. IL FFA advisor Tanner Schoen applied for the grant and was honored the district was selected.

 

 

Next up on the agenda, the BOE went into an executive session to discuss emergency response protocols. The board then approved those protocols and a confidential list of authorized armed staff. The district says that around 10 staff members will be armed around the school’s campus.

The BOE then accepted the Education Award for the High School Language Arts Department in the amount of $493.50, accepted the donation of $500.00 from Ignite Student Ministries to the Food Service Department, $247.07 from the Women of the Moose to the Student Needs Fund, and $250.00 from Mary Royer to the Joshua Keith Memorial Scholarship.

The board then approved a substitute employee list dated February 17, 2023, as recommended by the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center, approved food service substitute, bus driver trip pay, 21st-century after-school tutoring program supervisor stipends, and approved supplemental contracts.

Don Dalton – Mechanic; shall receive negotiated trip rate pay for trips occurring outside normal work hours

21st Century Grant Student Supervisors paid at a rate of $40 per hour by Grant Funds:

The BOE went on to approve:

  • A resolution authorizing 2023-2024 Membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association for grades 9-12 and 7-8.
  • The Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) School Compensation Agreement with the Indian Lake Hotel Group, LLC for a 15-year term amounting to 25% of what the schools would have received without the CRA agreement tax abatement.
  • Updates to the Emergency Management Plan and approve the List of Armed Staff authorized to convey weapons into a school safety zone pending Superintendent verification that all requirements of HB 99 (O.R.C. 2923.122, 5502.703) have been satisfied. The Superintendent shall submit the List of Armed Staff to the Ohio School Safety Center. This List is not a Public Record. (O.R.C. 5502.703(D).
  • The 2023/2024 School Calendar, which includes a Friday Evening graduation date for 2024 (May 24, 2024) and an online day for the anticipated solar eclipse (April 8, 2024).
