If I were the principal for a day: I’d change the bookbag rule and allow bookbags again. I’d also put kids in lunch intervention for bad grades, anything to help them raise their grades and become motivated.
Favorite school memory: The band Tennessee trip, it was so much fun to get to spend a couple of days with the people I grew so close to throughout my band years.
People who have been an inspiration to me include: Mr. Rogers, Mrs. Scheiderer, Mr. Steinbarger, Mr. Sutton, Miss Weygandt, Mrs. Keykens, and Mr. Snapp. If I ever need anything, whether that be asking a question or just needing to talk, I can always count on the people above to care and listen and look out for me.
Lately, I’ve been reading: Ready Player One and An Absolutely Remarkable Thing (for class), The Book Thief and Extremities (for fun)
My advice to parents: Trust your kids, and don’t be afraid to let them have a little freedom. They will learn from their mistakes more than learning from yours.
My biggest regret: I regret not doing more sports in high school and not making more lasting friendships.
Next year I will be: Studying a pre-dental pathway at Saint Vincent College in Pennsylvania on my way to a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.
Name: Beau Young
School: Indian Lake High School
Parents: Dan and Rebecca Young
Address: Huntsville
School Activities and Awards: Meistersingers (show choir), Concert Band, Choir, Marching Band, Musical, Science Club, Varsity Bowling, FFA, National Honor Society, honor roll, State FFA Degree
If I were the principal for a day: I would get rid of the dress code because the school should not have a say in what we wear.
Favorite school memory: My favorite school memory was the band trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, because we got to do a lot of cool things like a theme park and a dinner theater with my best friends.
People who have been an inspiration to me include: My dad, my grandma, and my great-grandpa have all been tremendous inspiration for me because they are very hardworking and they put others before themselves.
Lately, I’ve been reading: Watch You Burn by Amanda Searcy
My advice to parents: Let your kids experience things for themselves and learn from their mistakes. It would be better if they mess up and make mistakes when they are still in school living with you, than when they go off into the real world.
My biggest regret: Being stuck on one college for 3 years until halfway through my senior year and then having to look at a bunch of completely new colleges.
Next year I will be: Attending Ohio University for Outdoor Recreation and Education to become an Outdoor Educator or Naturalist.
