Each year, the local Neighborhood Outreach Centers partner with the Russells Point Community Market for a 90-second shopping spree.

Hundreds of tickets are sold, which raise money for the Outreach Centers in Russells Point, Chippewa, and Bellefontaine.

This fall, Indian Lake Middle School Science teacher Mrs. Jana Core’s ticket was randomly drawn as the winner.

Instead of stockpiling her own pantry with items, she used the minute-and-a-half to fill her cart full of snacks and drinks for kids at the Outreach Centers.

Core says, “I wanted to take this opportunity to give back to Drew and the Outreach Center because I am already blessed in many ways and believe everyone should always pay it forward. Supporting the Outreach Center is something I felt would be a good way to accomplish that!”

Outreach Center Coordinator Drew Shick says Core is not the first winner to use their spree to help restock the shelves at the after-school venue, but he is certainly thankful when they do.

Core continued, “I purchase a ticket every year to support the Outreach Center – Drew does an amazing job with the students that choose to use his services – from providing help with homework to just giving them a place to belong. The more people that become aware of what the Outreach Center does, I believe will be compelled to support Drew and the Center.”

Shick reports that this year’s Shopping Spree ticket sales raised more than $2100 for the Outreach Centers, plus Core’s donation.
