A new K9 had joined the Bellefontaine Police Department.
Officer Jerrod Hostetler and K9 Pyro completed their state certification Thursday as a K9 team.
He is a two-year-old German Shepherd, from Czechoslovakia, and is a certified dual-purpose patrol dog.
Pyro is the first German Shepherd the agency’s K9 unit has ever had, with the last five dual-purpose patrol dogs being Belgian Malinois.
K9 Pyro is not Officer Hostetler’s first K9.  Boodik, who retired from the BPD in April, was his previous partner, and enjoys retirement at his home.
