A West Liberty man was arrested early Saturday morning after a Speedway employee reported a possibly intoxicated driver leaving the store.
According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, officers were dispatched just after 1:00 a.m. after a Speedway employee told dispatchers she believed she had sold alcohol to an intoxicated man who had just driven away in a black Hyundai Tucson.
Police found the vehicle traveling southbound on Ludlow Road near Bellefontaine Middle School.
During the traffic stop, officers noted a marked lane violation and made contact with 60-year-old Harrod Stiles, of West Liberty.
When asked how much he had to drink, police say Stiles responded he had consumed “way too much.”
Officers reported Stiles showed several signs of impairment.
Police conducted standardized field sobriety tests, where officers noted multiple clues of impairment during the evaluation.
Following the investigation, Stiles was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence. Officers also searched the vehicle and found a partially opened 12-pack of IPA beer, though no open containers were located inside the SUV.
At the Bellefontaine Police Department, Stiles agreed to a breath test, which reportedly showed a blood alcohol concentration of .148 — nearly twice Ohio’s legal limit.
After being cited, Stiles was later released to a sober driver.
