A man was arrested Friday morning after police responded to reports of suspicious behavior behind a home in Bellefontaine.
According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, officers were called to a home in the 100 block of West Brown Avenue around 8:20 a.m. after a caller reported a man lying in the grass and acting erratically.
When officers arrived, they found 41-year-old Thomas Whitehead lying in the yard wearing only his underwear.
Police said he appeared unable to sit still and was sweating heavily.
Whitehead told officers he was dehydrated and suffering from leg cramps, and he requested medical assistance.
A squad was called to the scene.
While waiting for medics to arrive, officers questioned Whitehead about possible drug use after noticing signs that he appeared to be impaired.
He denied using drugs at the scene.
According to the police report, after Whitehead was taken to the hospital, medics told hospital staff that he admitted to using methamphetamine while in the ambulance.
Whitehead later refused medical treatment and was arrested for public intoxication.
He was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he was lodged on the charge.
