Bellefontaine Police received a call in reference to an intoxicated driver on the south end of town Tuesday afternoon just before 3:00.
Police went to the Walmart parking lot where they found John Sheeley asleep in his truck. They also saw an open case of Bush Lite beer sitting next to him.
Officers had to bang on the window several times before Sheeley woke up.
Police told Sheeley they received a report that he was drinking while driving in the area. He told police he had six beers out of the case. He then later admitted he had been drinking non-stop since the previous evening.
Sheeley’s eyes were bloodshot and glassy. His speech was slurred. When he was asked to step out of the vehicle he appeared unsteady on his feet.
He refused a field sobriety test and he refused a breath test.
He was arrested and charged with OVI, OVI refusal, and driving under suspension. Police also found out that Sheeley was wanted through the Bellefontaine Municipal Court on a bench warrant for violating the terms of his probation.
