UPDATE:

According to the Logan County Sheriff, Craig Thimmes, 54, of Huntsville, was pronounced dead after an apparent drowning incident on Friday evening. The incident occurred at approximately just after 6 PM in the rear of Lot 30 at 8651 State Route 368.

According to eyewitnesses, Thimmes, who was known to live in a trailer near the lake, was last seen by his neighbor, Laura Elford, 45 minutes before the incident. Elford, who had been out running errands, found Thimmes’s shirt on her boat upon returning home and grew concerned when she could not locate him.

Elford enlisted the help of another neighbor, Larry Kennedy, to search for Thimmes. The two discovered Thimmes floating face down in the water, two docks down from the initial location. Kennedy immediately jumped into the lake to retrieve Thimmes, while Elford attempted CPR. Despite their efforts, Thimmes was pronounced dead at the scene by Indian Lake EMS personnel.

Surveillance footage from Elford’s property captured the moments leading up to the incident. The video shows Thimmes entering the water in stormy conditions, apparently trying to retrieve an item that had drifted away. At the time, heavy rain and strong winds were impacting the area, creating hazardous conditions on the lake.

The Logan County Coroner’s office is handling the official death report, and Thimmes has been transported to the Montgomery County morgue for further examination. Initial investigations have revealed no signs of foul play or drug involvement.
