Friday evening, a routine traffic stop led to drug-related charges for a Bellefontaine man. Just before 9 PM, an officer on patrol observed a silver Mitsubishi traveling south on Plumvalley Street. The officer noted that the vehicle’s license plate was obscured by dirt, but was later identified.

The vehicle failed to stop properly at the intersection of Plumvalley Street and South Troy Road, prompting the officer to initiate a stop on South Troy Road at West Patterson Avenue. The driver, identified as Scott James, was asked for his identification. James stated he did not have it but provided his social security number. He also mentioned he was headed to “Clark” but had missed his turn.

A check revealed that James’s license was under suspension and he had an active warrant for his arrest. The officer detained James and placed him in handcuffs. While James’s vehicle was being searched with his consent, officers discovered a crack pipe in the center console. James admitted ownership of the pipe.

James was transported to the Logan County Jail. He was cited for driving under suspension and issued a summons for possession of drug paraphernalia. James is scheduled for a court appearance on Wednesday in the Bellefontaine Municipal Court.

The crack pipe was placed into evidence, and the vehicle was retrieved by its registered owner.
