An Urbana man was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence following a traffic stop early Sunday morning.

According to the Urbana Police Division, an officer observed a black Volkswagen repeatedly drift over the white edge line while traveling north on North Main Street around 3:07 a.m. on June 21. The vehicle was stopped near the intersection of North Main Street and Grimes Circle.

The driver, identified as Maddox Havens, reportedly had a faint odor of alcohol coming from him. During the stop, officers conducted field sobriety tests and observed signs of impairment.

A portable breath test administered at the scene registered a 0.121 blood alcohol concentration. After the test, Havens told officers he had consumed four beers.

Police arrested Havens and transported him to the Urbana Police Division, where he agreed to submit to an evidentiary breath test. The test recorded a result of 0.106, above Ohio’s legal limit of 0.08.

Havens was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, a first-degree misdemeanor, and a marked lanes violation, a minor misdemeanor. He was later released to a sober driver.
