On Saturday, November 30, 2024, at approximately 10:25 PM, the Champaign County 911 center received a call reporting an unresponsive male in a vehicle off the roadway in a field on Upper Valley Pike, south of Lippincott Road in Salem Township.
Deputies from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Urbana Fire Division and West Liberty Fire Department, responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, first responders found a silver 2008 Honda Pilot, driven by 67-year-old Joseph L. Trowbridge of Urbana.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Trowbridge was traveling southbound on Upper Valley Pike when his vehicle went off the west side of the road, returned to the roadway, and crossed the centerline.
The Honda Pilot then went off the east side of the roadway, struck a ditch, and came to rest in a field.
Trowbridge was transported to Mercy Health–Urbana Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the crash, and the incident remains under investigation.
