Tuesday evening Crystal Wells, 37, of Bellefontaine, was arrested after a physical altercation with police officers.

At approximately 6:53 PM, a Bellefontaine Police officer saw a black Mitsubishi driven by Hubert Wells, who was driving under license suspension. The vehicle, which had a cracked windshield, was stopped on Plumvalley Street as it turned westbound into an alley.

Upon initiating the stop, officers confirmed Wells’ suspended license status and approached the vehicle. Hubert Wells complied with requests for documentation, but his passenger, Crystal Wells, became confrontational. Crystal, who is also the vehicle’s registered owner, loudly contested the traffic stop and attempted to obstruct the officer’s actions.

Despite repeated warnings, Crystal refused to move away as officers began an inventory of the vehicle. When the officer instructed her to step back or face arrest, she interfered with the search by shutting the center console and refused to exit the vehicle when ordered to do so.

The situation escalated as Crystal physically resisted arrest, making it difficult for officers to remove her from the vehicle. With the assistance of additional officers, Crystal was eventually pulled from the car and subdued. She continued to resist while being pat down and was subsequently evaluated by medical personnel from the Bellefontaine Fire Department at Mary Rutan Hospital due to concerns about her right arm.

After being medically cleared, Crystal was re-arrested for resisting arrest and obstructing official business. She was transported to Logan County Jail without further incident.

Meanwhile, Hubert Wells received a citation for driving under a 12-point suspension and was informed of his mandatory court appearance scheduled for September 11th. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
