Area girls track and field teams delivered impressive performances Friday, May 15, at the Central Buckeye Conference Championships, highlighted by a CBC Mad River championship from Benjamin Logan and runner-up finishes from Bellefontaine in the Kenton Trail Division.
CBC KENTON TRAIL
Benjamin Logan Raiders – CBC Mad River Champions (138 points)
Benjamin Logan edged Springfield Shawnee for the CBC Mad River championship behind a balanced effort that included sprint titles, relay victories, and strong field-event scoring across the lineup.
Junior Abby Vance led the Raiders with a dominant all-around performance, sweeping the sprint events by winning the 100 meters in 13.26 and the 200 meters in a personal-best 26.05. Vance also captured another conference championship in long jump with a leap of 17-6.25.
Benjamin Logan added another conference title in the 4×100 relay as Addison Anderson, Scarlett Elliott, Storm LeVan, and Nahla Payne combined to win in 52.39. The Raiders also earned runner-up finishes in both the 4×200 relay and 4×400 relay.
Aleah France and Lauren Kennedy scored valuable points in the 400 meters, finishing fourth and sixth respectively, while Elliott Butler and Lucy Wenger added scoring performances in the 800 meters. Wenger later placed fifth in the 1600 meters, and Mollie Siefring took fourth in the 3200 meters.
The Raiders also scored heavily in the field events. Autumn Cline placed second in shot put, while Kyla Godwin and Kaylee Hays finished second and third in discus. Hays also added a seventh-place finish in shot put.
Scarlett Elliott added a runner-up finish in pole vault, while Penelope Elliott placed fourth in the event. Madi Oakes finished second in high jump, and Joplin Schneider added a fourth-place finish.
Storm LeVan and Sarah Miller contributed points in both hurdle races, while LeVan also scored in long jump as Benjamin Logan accumulated points in nearly every phase of the meet to secure the conference championship.
Indian Lake Lakers – 4th Place CBC Mad River (61 points)
Indian Lake finished fourth overall in the CBC Mad River Division standings with 61 points behind champion Benjamin Logan (138), Springfield Shawnee (136), and North Union (85.5).
Addison Beck led the Lakers with an outstanding all-around performance, placing runner-up in the 100-meter dash in 13.41 while also finishing third in both the 200 meters in 26.84 and long jump with a leap of 16-9. Beck also captured a conference championship in high jump with a personal-best clearance of 5-3.
Indian Lake scored valuable points in the distance races as Laura Metzger placed third in both the 1600 meters and 3200 meters with personal-best times in each event, including a 12:47.25 effort in the 3200. Kayleigh Taylor also contributed in both distance races, placing fifth in the 3200 meters in 13:58.15 and seventh in the 1600.
The Lakers added points in the relay events with a third-place finish in the 4×800 relay as Laura Metzger, Haley Metzger, Alicia Brielmaier, and Karsyn Newkirk combined to run 11:28.57. Indian Lake also earned fifth-place finishes in both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
The 4×100 relay team of Diem Martin, Piper Warnecke, Maddie Leiss-Breakey, and Adriana Andrus finished fifth in 55.68, while the 4×400 relay team of Mary Archer, Diem Martin, Raelin Klofta, and Karsyn Newkirk also placed fifth in 4:49.91.
Piper Warnecke added scoring performances in the sprint events, placing sixth in the 200 meters in 29.02, while Mary Archer scored in the 400 meters with a seventh-place finish and also contributed in relay competition.
In the field events, Terra Beltz placed third in shot put with a throw of 31-4.5 and later added an eighth-place finish in discus.
Additional scoring contributions came throughout the meet from Haley Metzger, Allison Overmyer, Adriana Andrus, Diem Martin, Maddie Leiss-Breakey, and Karsyn Newkirk as the Lakers scored points across multiple events.
Indian Lake will next compete in the OHSAA district championships at Graham High School Tuesday and Saturday.
Graham Falcons – 5th Place CBC Mad River (59.5 points)
Graham finished close behind Indian Lake in the team standings and was led by outstanding freshman Harriet Uhl, who captured the 1600-meter conference championship in a personal-best 5:45.53 and later finished runner-up in the 3200 meters in another personal-best effort of 12:44.93.
Uhl also helped Graham place fifth in the 4×800 relay as the Falcons scored heavily in the distance events.
Freshman Avonle Niece turned in a strong meet in the hurdles, placing third in both the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. She also helped Graham place fourth in the 4×100 relay and third in the 4×200 relay.
Maleah Erter added a runner-up finish in the 400 meters in 1:04.14 and later contributed to Graham’s third-place 4×200 relay team.
The Falcons also received points from Kaylin Hedrick and Leila Konicki in pole vault, while Sabrina Konicki, Kendall Nichols, Adelaide Shearer, Riley McAlexander, and Leila Konicki all contributed in relay competition.
CBC KENTON TRAIL
Bellefontaine Chieftains – 2nd Place (144 points)
Bellefontaine delivered one of its strongest meets of the season, finishing runner-up in the Kenton Trail Division behind dominant performances in the sprints, hurdles, relays, distance races, and throwing events.
Senior Callie Shumaker led the Chiefs with an outstanding all-around performance. Shumaker captured conference championships in the 200 meters and both hurdle events, winning the 200 in a personal-best 26.63, the 100 hurdles in 15.38, and the 300 hurdles in 45.56. She also helped anchor Bellefontaine’s conference championship 4×400 relay team.
The Chiefs’ 4×400 relay team of Layla Davis, Callie Shumaker, Kaeleigh Flora, and Jillian Ullum captured the conference title in 4:14.93. Bellefontaine also added runner-up finishes in the 4×200 relay and 4×800 relay and a third-place finish in the 4×100 relay.
Layla Davis had a huge meet for Bellefontaine, finishing runner-up in the 400 meters in a personal-best 1:00.84 and third in the 200 meters. Jillian Ullum added third in the 400 and fifth in the 100 meters.
Grace Brown captured the 1600-meter conference championship in 5:17.26 before later placing second in the 3200 meters. Kaeleigh Flora added a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters and contributed on two scoring relays.
Bellefontaine also dominated the throwing events behind Kelsie Snapp, who swept both throwing championships with a season-best 40-5.25 in shot put and a winning discus throw of 140-2.
Sloan Stolly added scoring performances in both hurdle events, while Ava Layman contributed points in the relays, high jump, and long jump. Cece Reier also scored in both distance races as Bellefontaine accumulated points across nearly every event.

Urbana Hillclimbers – 4th Place (60 points)
Urbana finished fourth overall behind standout performances from Avari Jenkins and Olivia MacKendrick along with strong relay efforts.
Avari Jenkins captured the 400-meter conference championship in a season-best 1:00.84 and later placed fourth in the 200 meters and second in long jump with a leap of 16-0.75. She also helped Urbana place third in the 4×400 relay.
Olivia MacKendrick delivered another conference championship for the Hillclimbers by winning the 800 meters in a personal-best 2:22.56. She later placed fifth in the 3200 meters and contributed on Urbana’s scoring relay teams.
The Hillclimbers earned third-place finishes in both the 4×400 and 4×800 relays while also placing fifth in the 4×100 relay.
Brylee Spriggs scored in both hurdle races for Urbana, while Addison Bass added points in the 100 and 200 meters. Bella Moxley contributed in the 400 meters, long jump, and relays.
Avery Smith turned in strong performances in the distance races with fifth in the 1600 meters and sixth in the 3200 meters, both in personal-best times. Marleigh Long also scored in the hurdles and pole vault.
Urbana added field-event points from Chloe Coy in both shot put and discus as the Hillclimbers continued to score consistently throughout the meet.
With conference championships complete, area teams now turn their attention toward next week’s district tournaments.
