Mechanicsburg 17, West Liberty-Salem 7 (5 innings)

Mechanicsburg used a massive middle inning to pull away from West Liberty-Salem, earning a 17-7 run-rule win in a Champaign County showdown.

The Lady Indians set the tone early with a clean defensive inning before scoring twice in the first. Bella Batkiewicz singled and later scored on a wild pitch after stealing third, while Aubrie Retterer brought home Chuckie Dale with an RBI single. Addison Gladman added another run in the second on a catcher error to make it 3-0.

West Liberty-Salem answered in the third to tie the game. Cortnee Muterspaw and Kaylee Blair each doubled to drive in a run, and Olivia Reichardt crushed a two-run homer to left to even things at 3-3.

That’s when Mechanicsburg took control. The Lady Indians erupted for nine runs in the fourth inning, piling up eight hits and taking advantage of three Tiger errors. The biggest swing came from Avery McDowell, who launched a three-run homer to left to highlight the rally.

The Lady Tigers tried to respond with three runs of their own in the inning. Sydney Conley singled, Britton Carter doubled, and Blair added a sacrifice fly to help cut into the deficit at 12-6. But Mechanicsburg answered again with five more runs in the bottom half, using six hits—four of them RBI knocks—along with another error to push the lead out of reach.

West Liberty-Salem added one more late run, but couldn’t extend the game, stranding runners as the run rule took effect.

McDowell led the Lady Indians with three hits and four RBIs, while Retterer and Batkiewicz also recorded three-hit games. For West Liberty-Salem, every hitter reached base, with Taylor Cook and Britton Carter each collecting two hits. Blair and Reichardt both drove in two runs.

Mechanicsburg improves to 2-10, while West Liberty-Salem falls to 4-11. Both teams return to action Tuesday.

Urbana 9, London 8

Urbana capped off a back-and-forth battle with a dramatic walk-off, defeating London 9-8 behind a four-hit rally in the bottom of the seventh.

The game started as a pitcher’s duel, with both teams trading runs in the first inning. London opened the scoring with a leadoff walk and RBI triple, while Urbana answered as Chloe Easterday reached and Addison Fox delivered an RBI single.

London regained the lead in the third before Urbana tied things again in the fourth. Fox reached on an error and later scored on a ground ball from Maley Pine to make it 2-2.

Offense picked up in the fifth. London briefly went back in front on an RBI groundout, but Urbana responded with a five-run inning. Lacie Cayten singled, Easterday doubled, and Morgan Hoffman drove both in with a clutch single. Bailee Packer followed with an RBI hit, and Pine added a two-RBI single to stretch the lead to 7-3.

London wasn’t done, though. After both teams left runners on in the sixth, the Lady Red Raiders stormed back with five runs in the seventh, using a mix of doubles, singles, and a pair of Urbana errors to take an 8-7 lead.

Facing a one-run deficit in the bottom half, Urbana delivered. Isla Wooten led off with a double, Aubrie Reynolds followed with a single, and Cayten drove in the tying run. Easterday then stepped up and ripped a hard ground ball to left, bringing home the winning run and sealing the 9-8 comeback.

Easterday, Packer, Reynolds, and Cayten each recorded two hits, while Pine and Hoffman drove in two runs apiece.

Urbana improves to 8-5 and will travel to Piqua on Tuesday.

Shawnee 7, Benjamin Logan 4

Benjamin Logan couldn’t hold off a late surge, surrendering five runs in the fifth inning in a 7-4 loss to Shawnee.

The Raiders struck first in the opening inning when Rylan Norviel singled to left to bring home Brielle Kline. After Shawnee answered, Benjamin Logan created separation in the third. Kline reached on an error, Kylie Harner doubled, and Norviel’s bunt single loaded the bases. Adilynne Gregg drew a bases-loaded walk, and Jaylyn Parker followed with a two-RBI single to make it 4-1.

Gregg was sharp through the first three innings and limited the damage in the fourth, but the Braves broke through in the fifth. With two outs, Shawnee strung together five straight hits — including a double and a triple — to plate five runs and take a 7-4 lead.

The Raiders were unable to respond, going without a baserunner the rest of the game.

Norviel led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, adding an RBI and a run scored, while Parker drove in two. Benjamin Logan falls to 6-6 and will look to bounce back against Shawnee on Wednesday.

Northwestern 11, Indian Lake 1 (5 innings)

Indian Lake struggled to slow down Northwestern, falling 11-1 in a run-rule loss on the road.

The Lakers allowed all 11 runs in the first three innings, as Northwestern capitalized on seven hits, four hit batters, and a pair of defensive miscues to build a commanding lead.

Indian Lake’s lone run came early on an RBI groundout, but the offense couldn’t find consistent rhythm. The Lakers later put together back-to-back singles from Annie Rapp and Brylee Buyer, with Rapp coming around to score, but that was all they could muster.

MacKenzie Miller also recorded a hit, while Buyer picked up the team’s only RBI.

Indian Lake drops to 4-11 and will look to regroup against Anna on Tuesday.

West Jefferson 22, Triad 1 (5 innings)

Triad ran into a red-hot West Jefferson lineup and couldn’t recover, falling 22-1 in a run-rule defeat.

The Roughriders piled up 22 runs on 22 hits while drawing five walks and taking advantage of seven Cardinal errors in a dominant offensive showing.

Triad’s lone run came in the fifth inning. Addisyn Martin singled to right field and worked her way around the bases, eventually scoring on a combination of passed balls and a wild pitch. Savannah Thomas accounted for the Cardinals’ other hit.

Triad falls to 3-11 and will get another shot at West Jefferson in a rematch on Tuesday.

North Union 30, Graham 0 (5 innings)

Graham was overmatched by North Union in a 30-0 loss, as the Lady Wildcats delivered a dominant all-around performance.

North Union’s Leah Cox was perfect in the circle, tossing a shortened perfect game with 12 strikeouts and striking out the side twice.

Offensively, the Wildcats erupted early with eight runs in the first inning and exploded for 16 more in the second. They finished with 30 runs on 22 hits while also drawing seven walks.

The Lady Falcons fall to 4-10 and will look to bounce back against Houston on Tuesday.
