A little sad that football season is gone and won't start again until August?  Why not rent or buy some of the best football movies to hold you over until the season kicks off again.  Here's my picks for the 10 best football movies of all time.

10. Brian's Song-Ok so the only reason this movie isn't higher on the list is because it really doesn't show that much football, but if you are a true football fan you most know the story of Brian Piccolo and Gale Sayers.  Grab the box of tissues and guys there's no shame in shedding a few tears in this one.  Get the original with Billy Dee Williams and James Caan.

9. Friday Night Lights-Billy Bob Thornton plays the head coach of a Texas high school football team where it's win or you're gone.  The entire town is obsessed with football and winning a state title.  Tim McGraw co-stars as a has-been football player now dad to one of the players.

8. North Dallas Forty-Nick Nolte stars in this 70's movie about the Dallas Cowboys.  Good cast and good stuff in this movie.

7. Varsity Blues-It's Porky's meets football guys.  What a combination.

6. We are Marshall-Another true story about the Marshall football team's fight to restore their program after the entire team was lost in a plane crash.  Another one you'll need the tissues for.

5. Invincible-The story of Philadelphia's Vince Papale who literally walked off the streets to make the Eagles football team.  Mark Wahlberg stars. Rated PG.

4. The Waterboy-Pure stupidity from Adam Sandler, but if you've never seen this movie you will laugh like crazy as Sandler plays a crazed waterboy turned linebacker for a college team.  Even the Fonz from Happy Days is in this movie.

3. The Longest Yard (original)-This movie is great.  The inmates vs. the guards with Burt Reynolds leading the Mean Machine.  Lots of laughs.  Two great ones stand out.  1st when the inmate clotheslines the guard on the field and 2nd when Burt Reynolds drops back to pass and throws directly in to the groin of the best defensemen for the guards.  Then he does it again.

2. Rudy-I must admit I dislike Notre Dame when it comes to football, but even I enjoyed this movie.  The story of a man who wouldn't give up on his dream to one day play on Saturday for the Irish.  Based on a true story.

1. Remember the Titans-Denzel Washington is fantastic!  A must see as coach Boone must take a high school football team of both black and white players and make them work together in a time when not to many schools were integrated.  This movie has everything from laughs to tears and it's something the whole family can watch.  Another movie based on a true story.

Enjoy!
