Friday, August 4th begins the 182nd Champaign County Fair.
Last year, the fair sold 37,000 tickets at the gate alone.
This year, Fairboard President Wayne Cook expects similar, if not greater, results.
All species of livestock are up in number, along with 4-H exhibitors.
The show arena is completely booked throughout the week, and all 350 camp spots are sold out.
Cook describes the event as the largest gathering for the community and says that some families will even take their week’s vacation to come camp at the fair.
Cook describes the preparation that goes into the fair week and the significance of the event itself:
For Cook, fair truly is “for the kids.” He feels that “you either have a love for this or you don’t.”

You can watch the crowning of the 2023 Champaign County Fair Queen, 4-H Boy & Girl of the Year, and FFA Boy & Girl of the Year HERE, Sunday, August 6th at 7 PM.
Stay tuned all week for fair updates each day.
Good luck to all fairgoers and exhibitors!
