The Bellefontaine City Council met Tuesday for a light agenda.
Mayor, Dave Crissman spoke to the group about third-grade tours of the City Building that had taken place last week. He went on to thank council members for helping facilitate the tours.
Service Safety Director, Wes Dodds updated the council on some upcoming events downtown and street closures. He also mentioned that the fire department and street crews are busy flushing and testing fire hydrants within the city.
Three residents approached the council to discuss the topic of a marijuana dispensary coming to the city. Two people spoke out against it, and one in support. Pastor Jeff Willetts from Calvary Baptist Church in Bellefontaine, and also a city resident had this to say about the topic:

Ordinances for 1st reading:
- R24-43 a. A resolution authorizing and directing the Police Chief of the City of Bellefontaine to apply for and accept an FY 2024 Cops Hiring Program Grant to assist in the funding of four police officers. (Adopted Unanimously)
- R24-44 b. A resolution authorizing and directing the Police Chief of the City of Bellefontaine to apply for and accept a 2024 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant to purchase a replacement Brink Responder Drone and Transcend Robotics. (Adopted Unanimously)
- 24-45 c. An ordinance making supplemental appropriations and amending the Permanent Appropriations Ordinance for purposes of fire department repairs, maintenance and incidentals, police investigations, vehicle maintenance fuel and oil, and declaring an emergency. (Passed on first reading ONLY)
- R24-46 d. A resolution authorizing and directing the Service-Safety Director of the City of Bellefontaine, Ohio to apply for and accept an Ohio Airport Improvement Program Grant for State Fiscal Year 2025. (Adopted Unanimously)
- 24-47 e. An ordinance authorizing and creating a new firefighter position in the Bellefontaine Fire Department and authorizing the Service-Safety Director and Fire Chief to take the necessary action for the hiring of said a new firefighter and declaring an emergency. (Passed on first and final reading. Adopted unanimously)
Ordinances for 2nd reading:
- 24-40 a. An ordinance authorizing the city auditor to execute an adoption agreement with Ohio Deferred Compensation to authorize the City to offer its employees the Ohio Deferred Compensation Roth 457(b) and declare an emergency. (Passed on second reading ONLY)
- 24-41 b. An ordinance authorizing and directing the Service-Safety Director to enter into a contract with RDP Technologies, Inc. for the replacement of the lime feed screw conveyor, sludge lime mixing augers, control panel, lime silo dust collector, filter media, and associated parts and declaring an emergency.(Passed on second and final reading. Adopted unanimously)
- 24-42 c. An ordinance authorizing and directing the Service-Safety Director to enter into a contract with Alfa Laval, inc. for the reconditioning of the belt filter press including belts, rollers, bearings, washboxes, hydraulics, control panel, and associated parts and declaring an emergency.(Passed on second and final reading. Adopted unanimously)
Ordinances for 3rd reading:
- 24-36 a. An ordinance amending Chapter 192 income tax of the Codified Ordinances of the city of Bellefontaine, Ohio for purposes of levying an increase in income taxes in the amount of 0.267 percent in said City for additional park and recreation operations and capital expenditures and declaring an emergency. (Passed on third and final reading. Adopted unanimously)
The Bellefontaine City Council will meet again in two weeks on June 4th at 7:30 PM in council chambers.
