A Bellefontaine man is in critical condition after losing control of his electric scooter on North Main Street Monday, according to police.
Just before 1:00 PM, Bellefontaine Police and Fire Department personnel were called to the intersection of North Main Street and Williams Avenue after the report of a pedestrian on a bicycle being hit by a vehicle.
However, officers quickly found out that the accident involved only an electric scooter that had crashed.
Upon arrival, first responders found a man, later identified as Hubert Wells, lying unresponsive in the northbound lane of Main Street.
Emergency medical personnel were already on scene providing aid.
According to police, a witness, who had been riding behind Wells on a separate scooter, said Wells had been going 30 miles per hour when he began swerving.
He then lost control of the scooter, fell into the roadway, and sustained a serious head injury.
Due to the severity of his injuries, MedFlight was requested.
Wells was stabilized and transported from the scene by ambulance for further treatment.
According to police, Wells remains in critical condition.
