Bellefontaine Police Department Reports Busy 2024

In 2024, the Bellefontaine Police Department responded to more than 20,668 calls for service.

These calls included a wide range of situations, from everyday traffic stops to serious crimes.

Officers handled issues like sex offenses, shoplifting, overdoses, thefts, accidents, robberies, assaults, and missing persons.

They also responded to neighborhood disputes, house checks, and cases involving intoxicated drivers.

The department made 864 arrests and issued 1,659 traffic tickets in 2024.

Of the answered calls, 3,202 were related to emergencies such as fires and medical situations.

The Bellefontaine Police Department includes:

  • One Chief
  • Two Lieutenants (One oversees administrative duties, and the other handles operations)
  • Four Sergeants (One position is vacant, with each sergeant assigned to a different shift. The fourth sergeant supervises the swing shift and manages the communications center)
  • Twenty-Four Patrol Officers, including:
    • 3 Detectives
    • 1 Canine Officer
    • 3 School Resource Officers

Their work also included supporting the local schools through the School Resource Officers, investigating crimes as Detectives, and providing community protection alongside the Canine Officer.
