A Columbus man is facing charges after a traffic stop that escalated on U.S. 33 Monday evening.
According to a report from the Bellefontaine Police Department, the incident began around 5:40 p.m. near Township Road 55.
An officer clocked a white Ford Bronco traveling westbound at 93 miles per hour in a 70 MPH zone.
Officers attempted a traffic stop just west of U.S. 68, but say the driver did not immediately pull over.
Instead, the vehicle slowed on a bridge, then continued westbound for nearly a mile.
Because of the initial stop location and the driver’s actions, officers conducted what is known as a felony stop.
The driver, identified as Arad Cohen, 22, of Columbus, was taken into custody without further incident.
A passenger, Aviv Bukobza, 22, of Columbus, was also detained during the stop.
Authorities say both individuals were in the United States from Israel and did not have valid U.S. driver’s licenses.
The vehicle was confirmed to be a rental from the Columbus area.
Deputies also determined the passenger was not in violation of any court-ordered conditions.
Cohen was arrested and charged with failure to comply with a lawful order, then transported to the Logan County Jail.
Both men were checked through ICE and cleared.
The vehicle was towed from the scene, and Bukobza was transported to the Bellefontaine Police Department to wait for a ride.
