Wednesday evening, a Columbus man was charged with possessing an open container of alcohol after police responded to a report of erratic driving at a Marathon gas station on North Main Street.

Officers arrived at the scene following a caller’s alert about a red truck swerving on the road.

The caller described the driver as “all over the road,” nearly causing accidents before parking at the gas station.

Upon arrival, officers found Marcus Cobb, 32, of Columbus, in a maroon truck equipped with a silver toolbox.

The vehicle was stationary, and Cobb appeared visibly distressed, claiming he was having a “horrible” day.

During questioning, he stated he was attempting to reach County Road 9 but did not have his driver’s license.

Cobb admitted to drinking earlier at the gas station, although he insisted he had not consumed any alcohol while driving.

Officers noted the smell of alcohol and discovered an empty beer can in the vehicle.

Despite appearing stable and without slurred speech, Cobb refused to undergo standard field sobriety tests, stating he had not driven after drinking.

Officers issued a summons for the open container violation, explaining the charges to Cobb, who expressed concern over potential legal repercussions.

Cobb’s ride arrived at the scene and assisted in moving his truck away from the gas pumps.

He was informed of his court appearance scheduled for next week.
