A homeless man was arrested Saturday evening after police say he broke into the Logan County Solid Waste District and attempted to use the property as a place to stay.

According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Logan County Solid Waste District on South Detroit Street shortly before 6:00 PM after the Logan County Sheriff’s Office spotted a man on surveillance cameras inside the fenced facility.

Officials reported the man had entered one of the buildings on the property and was accompanied by a small dog.

Employees confirmed no one was authorized to be inside the facility.

Officers, along with K-9 Pyro, searched the property and found the man inside the building.

Police say the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Marquell Stevens, surrendered without incident after being warned that the K-9 would be deployed if he did not comply.

After being taken into custody, Stevens told officers he was homeless and had entered the property looking for a place to sleep.

Stevens was booked into the Logan County Jail on charges of breaking and entering and a probation violation.

Officers also recovered Stevens’ two dogs, which were transported from the scene.
