Friday night around 10:00 Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a one-vehicle accident on County Road 34.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they could smell alcohol coming from inside the vehicle & from the driver, Darrel Maddy.
Maddy stated that he was coming from DeGraff, which was the direction his car was heading to when he went off the road, hit the ditch, and landed in a cornfield.
Officials found several empty beer cans and a partially empty bottle of whiskey on the floorboard of Maddy’s vehicle.
He was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital for injuries to his face and head that were sustained from the airbag deploying.
At the hospital, Maddy consented to a blood alcohol test and admitted to staff that he was driving while intoxicated.
He issued citations for OVI, Driving While Under a 12 Point Suspension, and Failure to Control.
