Jared Greenbaum, 36, of St. Marys, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon, after being involved in a series of incidents in Bellefontaine.

Bellefontaine Police Officers were called to the post office area. Reports indicated that Greenbaum was harassing customers and damaging property, specifically kicking a sign belonging to Native Coffee. Witnesses also noted that Greenbaum had placed an unknown item in the bushes in front of the café and had entered the establishment.

Upon arrival, officers observed Greenbaum leaving Native Coffee. When questioned, Greenbaum identified himself as being from Auglaize County but gave unclear answers, including references to a “black and yellow sign” and stating, “We will just go our separate ways.” Despite being told he was not free to leave, Greenbaum attempted to walk away. Officers spoke with employees at Native Coffee, who reported that Greenbaum had been inside the café shouting about gold and silver and mentioned having dreams about Santa Claus.

Greenbaum was subsequently trespassed from Native Coffee and warned about potential disorderly conduct charges.

Later in the day, around 7:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a man looking into mailboxes on West Columbus Avenue near West Sandusky Avenue. The suspect, identified as Greenbaum, was spotted walking westbound. Officers located Greenbaum and inquired about his actions. Greenbaum claimed he was searching for a pen but refused to comply with instructions to stop.

Law enforcement followed Greenbaum, but he continued to walk away. He was intercepted by a patrol unit. During the encounter, Greenbaum made a statement suggesting resistance and displayed constricted pupils. After a brief struggle, Greenbaum was taken into custody. A search of his belongings did not uncover any illegal items, and he was transported to the Logan County Jail for disorderly conduct.
