A man was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly breaking into Belle Beauty, a local salon located at 310 Water Avenue.
Bellefontaine Police were called to the scene after a witness reported finding a naked man asleep on the floor inside the business.
According to the police report, at 9:58 AM, officers were dispatched to the salon.
Upon arrival, they spoke with the witness who reported that the man, later identified as David Lewis, 41, at large, was lying just inside the entrance, covered with a blanket.
They believed that Lewis had entered the salon through a window since the door was locked.
Upon making contact with Lewis, officers found him fully nude beneath the blanket.
Lewis admitted to entering the business through a window after knocking on several doors.
He claimed he was cold and had undressed to avoid freezing.
Lewis also told officers that he had put his clothes in the salon’s dryer, and when asked, showed them to the bathroom where his clothing was found in a pile.
While inspecting the scene, officers noticed a framed picture near the pile of clothing that was identified as belonging to the salon.
Lewis could not explain how the picture ended up on the floor, and additional signs of the break-in, including debris and muddy water near an open window, were observed.
The business owner arrived on the scene and confirmed her intention to press charges.
During a search, officers found a bag of acrylic powder in a location where it did not belong, further suggesting that the break-in was not accidental.
Lewis was found in possession of a butane torch and was arrested on charges of breaking and entering.
He was taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail.
Additional items belonging to Lewis were found in the salon’s dryer.
